This hike was on Jan 30, 2021 and we wanted to experience Dixon Trail. Unfortunately Shawn had to work in the morning and so we got a late start so we could only get partially up the trail. We plan to do it again!
City/State/Country: Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
Date: Jan 30, 2021
Weather/elements: It was a nice warm day in the 50’s. Warm enough that the snow on the trails was melting creating an incredible muddy mess of a hike. Snow and mud mixed in the lower section of Talon Trail. Teri fell twice…but gracefully.
Hike with: Teri
Location (trails, route, etc): Talon Trail to Dixon Trail.
Distance hiked: 9.5 miles (should be 10 miles as the turn around point was 5 miles so we’re not sure why the app showed 9.5 at the end).
Sightings/terrain: From the parking lot/trailhead we took Talon Trail. It was very muddy! The snow was melting and so the sections with snow were either slush or icy due to the snow melting and re-freezing. Once we got to Dixon Trail it was in better shape. Great views and hiking in tree covered trails.
Notes/experiences/happenings/events: The weather was really nice to where we didn’t need jackets – just a shirt with a base-layer.
